Stella Maria Studios – Malia – Crete

The apartment my husband and I were allocated in Malia at Stella Maria Studios (we stayed for 14 days) was appalling.

There were ants in the rooms, there was a piece of black masking tape on our balcony window which I presume was so the pane of glass did not fall out! When we arrived back late one evening we put the light on in our apartment & there were sparks coming out of the light socket. Also the fridge was like something out of Heartbeat, circa 1960 – it only had one shelf & was rusty!

After a week we complained that our bed linen & towels had not been changed and also that the shower was broken so you had to hold it in your hand because the fitting on the wall had broken! The thing that annoyed me the most however was the ants – they were everywhere – in the kitchen, bedroom and even in the bed itself!

In the bathroom there was a cabinet which lit up but one bulb was missing and there was no cover seperating water & electri which was very dangerous! I must stress this is the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in on a package holiday in Crete or anywhere! However the staff were very nice - Yannis, who ran the bar, was a lovely chap and his dad was nice too.

It could be a very nice place if it was properly maintained but my advice to potential holiday makers to Crete and Malia in particular is to steer clear of the Stella Maria apartments!
