We have just returned from the Hotel Miami in Lido di Jesolo. We weren’t expecting much for the price we paid but the hotel has just undergone a full refurb it was spotless, the rooms were hoovered, had  mopped & fresh towels daily while the entire hotel was clean & all furnishings were new. The staff are welcoming & friendly & our Thomas Cook rep was great.

We have stayed as a group of golfers in 4 apartmements in residence Eden for 4 nights. What we expected was delivered as we were there already before – 2*, anything extra for extra money (including linen …).
But what was totally broken this time was the staff and their approach during check-out. Normally you can choose if you clean up the apartment or pay 70 Euro to get it done. We have cleaned it up, some man came for inspection, said no word except OK (he didn`t speak english, german … nothing except Italian) took the keys and sent us to reception. Where they charged us 70 Euro for 2 aps.
The hell came just after – on our question what was so dirty, they were not able to answer, didn`t want to call the man, didn`t want to go there and show us, didn`t allow us to go there and clean it perfectly. Just insisted on 70 euro.
While we insisted on not paying till we`ll see what`s wrong (and this took cc 20 minutes of arguying and shouting) they have tried several arguments – man is away occupied in other apartments, they are already full of other guests (within 20 minutes!!), they charged it already and there is no way how to change it in the system… we finally made them to go with us to show us. The problem was wet tea pot, left soap on the basin and drops in the shower bath. On our question if this is for 70 Euro, they told us that not, but there was something in each apartment so they charged us just for two and we should be therefore happy. Again they not allowed us to put it in the order and teared it off our hands (really).
So to make it short – they succesfully destroyed everything positive from our stay and caused we will never go there again – and it was not about money, 70 euro is not so much, it was about their approach and acting with us like with dirty incommodious bugs. Really I have never experienced something like this anywhere else in my life (the year before, everything was OK there, and no such problems during check out).
So my advice – during inspection insist on telling you the result before you go to reception. If the man does not speak english insist on interpreter.

Lonely Planet author Leif Pettersen’s Tuscany is a never-ending series of hill-top towns that don’t seem to have felt the passing of the centuries. Florence and Sienna are non-negotiable for Rennaissance and Gothic art and cafe culture but make time for smaller towns like Cortona and San Gimignano, a medieval Manhattan. Around every corner, there’s a regional specialty, wine or food, so you don’t need any excuses to indulge.

A road trip to Venice in Italy. Quite ironic really considering Venice’s streets are mainly canals, but there you go.
