I stayed on an all inclusive holiday.

Food was good always something to choose from, staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble, entertainment leaves a lot to be desired, not to everyone’s choice last alternative is a piano playing every night in the lobby bar (ave maria not what you want to listen to).

Biggest disappointment was the hygiene of the pool, was never cleaned daily often cups & debris floating from the previous evenings, having to be fished out by parents whose children wanted to swim. Pool side area in the two weeks we were there was never cleaned only when it rained.

Wouldn’t probably return.

We stayed at the Paradisus Rio de Oro in may & WOW!

We booked a holiday package here to get married, we were just going on our own until friends got wind of it & started to book too. Ended up 13 of us which was great.

However I worried on the run up to our holiday if hotel etc would be ok as we had not been to Cuba before & other couples were paying a lot of money to go.

As soon as I stepped of the coach my worries were no more, the place & the people are great.

The journey from the airport took about one 1/2 hours, which is nice as you get to see a bit of the country. We actually checked into the hotel on the coach, given our bands & our room key so we didn’t have the hassle of checking in once we arrived.

We were greeted with a welcome drink which was much appreciated & our luggage was taken to our room quite quickly. The rooms are OK. Clean but need updating (which they are actually doing now).

Your mini bar is stocked daily (hide your drinks if you don’t use them as they won’t restock if you have them in your mini bar). You only get a couple of beers, a bottle of water, a coke & a 7up. The pools were nice but I actually only ever saw them cleaned a few times (two people in our group had ear infection). Whether this was due to the pools or not I don’t know.

First the good part of this package holiday, very clean spotless, & only 15 minutes from airport. Complex is stunning. Beach is stunning. I booked this holiday for my girlfriend’s 40th birthday & our 21 years together.

It rained for the first 6 days. Once you get wet you can’t get warm, the air conditioning is set to cold & you can’t alter it. The food was bad, freezing cold, & flies all over the food. I got food poisoning on day 4 & spent girlfriend’s 40th in bed; she went ill on 6th day.

The 8th day my youngest would not eat, all she ate was cake & bread. All we ate after this was toast, tea, & coffee, cereal & yogurt, so much for all inclusive. We ate at two restaurants on site but had to give 72 hours notice to book them; these where OK (hot food).

Grand Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado is their flagship resort. Standard in the package that are extras at other Bahia resorts are things like room safe, 24 hour room service, unlimited a-la-cartes, internet access with wifi & branded spirits.

If you know the Bahia resorts already, it’s as if the whole resort is a Golden Club/Don Pablo upgrade. There are 194 rooms in total which makes any early morning rush to grab a sun lounger unnecessary.

The best rooms to go for (IMHO) are the superior junior suites which are located in villas dotted around the island. The mini-bar is topped up daily with two beers (Presidente), Pepsi, 7Up, & Fanta along with miniature whisky, vodka & Barcadi bottles.

We booked this on a Saturday & flew out the next Wednesday. After a long flight we were really looking forward to arriving at our hotel, only to find we had a 1.5hr transfer. In all honesty it wasn’t that bad & went fairly quickly.

We arrived at the hotel complex & were greeted by the lovely reception staff. The complex is massive, hosting some 5 hotels in all. The Coba is furthest away from the beach but that really isn’t an issue as a golf shuttle runs around the resort constantly.
