Pi-Mar Hotel – Blanes – Costa Brava

Am just back from an enjoyable week with full board at the Pi-Mar in Blanes. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist & given a sea-view double room. The room & it’s en-suite were compact but adequate with all the essentials and clean, tidy & with tasteful decor. The bath was small but was OK to use & the shower above was powerfull.

The view from balcony is lovely & at night you can lie in bed listening to the surf. I can’t comment on the evening entertainment as we were out each evening. Breakfast choice was along continental lines with plenty of rolls, toast, pastries, jams etc but also bacon, fresh fried eggs and/or scrambled eggs or boiled eggs. Occasionally there were baked beans & most mornings sliced melon or pineapple.

Lunch was similar to dinner with various hot dishes & salads. Worth mentioning were the Gateux which were outstanding, the best I have come across & I normally do not like dessert. Fresh fruit is also available together with creme caramel etc. The table wine is very palatable & costs 5.99 euros per bottle. 500ml of bottled water was 1.50 euros. Overall, standards in the restaurant were high, the buffet was constantly monitored & anything running low was quickly replenished. A minor gripe was that some main dishes were not labeled which made making a choice difficult for discerning diners & vegetarians.

We felt the Pi-Mar was a genuine 3 star of a good standard with friendly staff & situated by the beach and conveniently close to town. Note that less than half of the rooms are sea view so worth checking before booking.
