El Greco Hotel – Portinatx – Ibiza

We have just returned from a 10 night family break to the El Greco hotel in Portinatx, Ibiza. This is the first time I have visited Ibiza & I wasn’t disappointed. Portinatx was beautiful & the beach is stunning. The connected water park was great for the kids but it is small & sunbeds are very limited. Nonetheless we spent some fun days there.

The hotel was lovely & very clean, althoughthe pool area could have been larger – however it did not spoil our holiday & we spent a couple of nice days around the pool. The rooms where adequate & met all our needs, but the lifts were small & you did have to wait a while to get one. However this was only a issue for us as we had a buggy & as this hotel is extremley pushchair & wheelchair un-friendly, there could have been better lifts.

The hotel is surrounded by steps & it was very tiring with a pushcair as you couldn’t go anywhere (not even down to the pool) without having to tackle 2-3 flights of stairs.

There were a couple of things that really let this hotel down for us:

All-inclusive was more like full board. We were very disappointed with the all inclusive. There is no snack bar & all food has to be eaten in the dining area, meaning that you had to dry off (no swimwear allowed in the dining hall), get dressed, then struggle up the stairs to the dining room. There were set dining times for breakfast, lunch & dinner and there was also an hour in the morning & an hour in the afternoon where you could go to the dining room for a snack, however this was a complete joke as it was just left-overs from breakfast & lunch. Usually one tray of ham & one of cheese & bread. That was every day!

No food was allowed out of the dining area & I saw them chasing people who had taken a packet of biscuits out to a child on a couple of occassions. We found our children did not want to leave the pool area to go to the dining hall for snack/lunch so they were going without. We asked if we could take a sandwich out to them but we where told no.

The ice cream is in very small tubs & there was two flavours of basic ice lollies. The only thing good about the all inclusive was the fact that you could get a drink until 11pm, however they are served in very small plastic cups so you would need to get 4 beers to equal a pint!.

This hotel seemed to be a hotspot for German guests who we found to be very rude & pushed in front of us etc. Our child was crying on a couple of occasions & the stares of utter disgust made us feel very self conscious, & they where stares which they made no effort at being discreet!

All in all we had a really good holiday, however we wouldn’t return as we have seen all that Portinatx has to offer. It was stunning but there is little to do, so you could get fed up easily. Also the all inclusive was a big let down & you can get much better a-i deals for your money.
