Club Merriment Hotel – Hisaronu – Turkey

Just got back from the Meriment Hotel, Hisaronu in Turkey & this is the first hotel I have stayed at in Turkey that I would not recommend!

I went to this hotel with two other friends and when we arrived we found that the rooms were very, very small & 3 adults could not stay in it, so we had to pay £105 to upgrade to a lager room. That was fine although we had to scrub the patio chairs before we could sit on them. We told the receptionist that the shower was not working & that there was no bracket to hold the shower head and he said that it would be fixed. We waited for it to be fixed & in the end we had to fix it ourselves & hold the shower head to have a shower.

At first, the hotel seemed clean but as time went on the true appearance soon became clear. Around the pool was never cleaned, spilt drinks were left & the floor, the pool became very dirty, the sunbeds were never cleaned or moved to sweep under and rubbish was left there for the whole week. Glass is left around the pool all day & I had a plastic cup kicked towards me by a Turkish waiter who then clapped & smiled & left it where it was kicked. I then told him that there was plenty of glasses left on the steps down to our room & that they had been left there for some time – he did collect them.

We stayed at the hotel one night & had drinks. We had to sit amongst Glasses, cups, plates, & ash trays that had been left there all day. When we went to the pool the next day all the days rubbish, including our glasses, were still there & was only cleaned up after we mentioned it.

We arrived on 3 July 2009 & by the Wednesday one of my friends became ill & by the end of the week we all came down with it as did other people in the hotel & some chose to leave & go to another hotel.

I went to the bar at 10:50pm & waited to be served. The bar staff was talking to his co-workers & when eventually I managed to get served it was 10:58pm. The drinks arrived at 11:02pm (all inclusive ended at 11pm) & I was told that I would now have to pay for them. After a long discussion they said that I could have one drink but had to pay for the others.

The staff at the Hotel where very unhelpful & were constantly playing Table Tennis, Pool or were swimming in the pool. This was going on all day & night & one hotel guest had to ring reception because people were in the pool at 3am. I did not sleep most of the holiday because there was so much noise at night - up to 5am in the morning.

There were birds nesting at the Hotel & there was bird excrement all over the floor where we had to walk to our room & there were glasses left there & the excrement was all over them.

I then went to complain to the manager after a guest pointed out who he was. I had thought that this manager was a guest as he was playing table tennis & swinging in the hammock like his staff. When asked if I could speak with him about concerns I had, I was told that they cleaned all the time. I said that our sheets had not been changed for a week. He told me to pack my bags and leave!!  was not the first person in the hotel that had been told to do this.

This is the worst hotel I have visted in Turkey & I have been going for 13yrs. All I can advise is STAY AWAY!
