Altamar Apartments – Puerto Rico – Gran Canaria

Just got back from a great two week break at the Altamar apartments in Puerto Rico. We had a massive two bedroom apartment, one room had two single beds and the other had a double with en-suite bathroom.

Some people seemed to have to pay for extras i. e. kettle, TV, coffee maker, matress for sunbeds & parasols but they were all in the apartment already when we arrived & the TV was fully operational. There are only ceiling fans in the bedrooms & lounge & the temperature did hit 50+ while we were in Gran Canaria, but we found that if we left the small windows open and the curtains closed, with the fans still going, the room stayed fairly cool – apart from one night which was unbearable!.

We went half board & found the food to be OK: a salad bar, hot food, a carvery, bread & rolls and dessert bar were all available. There seemed to be a better choice in our first week, but we all found that there was plenty of choice and my kids really enjoyed it (ate loads!) so if the kids are happy, so are we!

The kid’s club was great and the entertainment was good - a varied selection although a bit hit & miss some nights, but kept us happy in general. The pools were not massive & there were not enough sunbeds. A lot of people got up at 7am to put theit towels down & then left them in that spot for the rest of the day.Quite sad really considering the pool doesn’t open till 9am. Friday afternoon was great for the kids as they got an inflatable out in pool A.

My only complaint about the Altamar was that if you didn’t wear a blue wrist band, you would wait ages at the bar, especially during happy hour, which is where you would think they would make money out of the guests paying for drinks! But all in all, a good place to go for a family holiday and definitely recommended.
