Palace Tres Islas Hotel Riu – Corralejo – Fuerteventura

Visited the Palace Tres Islas hotel in Corralejo between 29 July-5 August 09. Myself & my husband are in our 40′s and wanted somewhere relaxing for our 20th wedding anniversary & the Tres Islas was wonderful.

Paid for a sea view room & emailed the hotel a couple of weeks prior to visiting asking for a room overlooking the pool towards the Riu Olivia & had the usual “nothing guaranteed but will do our best” response. But they did manage to fulfil our request and we had beautiful views from the balcony. They also provided some champagne, a bowl of fruit & some local red wine in our rooms on arrival. We had fabulous weather, the first 3 days were exceptionally hot, although it did cool off slightly but still gorgeous sunshine from 7. 15 til 9pm. Aircon in rooms was adequate.

Rooms do have a fridge/mini bar which we used to keep our own drinks in including my jug of milk that I brought up from breakfast for my essential early morning cup of tea! Surprisingly, no tea or coffeee-making facilities in the room, so remember your travel kettle. The room safe cost 15 euros for the week. Found it strange that both the safe & door keys had the room numbers on so could be an issue if you lost them. The bathroom was a bit on the small side, but had a wonderful shower. Pool towels were available and the maids do a good job - everywhere is very clean.

There are 2 sittings for dinner at 6.30 and 8.30 & you keep the same table. We chose the 6.30 sitting but usually got in for about 6.45. If you go a bit later you miss the queues and with everyone arriving at 6.30 it does get busy. We found the food to be pretty good. Expect to pay about 20 euros for a decent bottle of red wine. Breakfast was also pretty good. We did try the snack bar at the hotel one lunchtime but the menu is poor & we thought it was also very expensive. There is a supermarket about 5 minutes walk away where we bought our wine/soft drinks/cheese & ham & made up our lunch with rolls/cakes from breakfast.

Having stayed with our teenage daughter at the all inclusive Riu Olivia (not bad for a 3 star) previously we knew the beach was wonderful. Umbrellas & sunbeds are available at 3 euros each. Only one “green flag” day during our week where it was possible to swim in the sea but on the other “red flag” days you can still go in, but the lifeguards are keen to ensure everyone is safe & are constantly using their whistles if you go too far out. I have to say the waves were so strong I didn’t dare go out past my knees. The beach on the other side of the hotel has no sunbeds for hire but it is truly breathtaking, so clean & the sea so clear. It does shelve quite sharply so be careful. Pool area is very nice but we prefer the beach.

The hotel staff, without exception, were extremely helpful & and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would certainly return, not a place we would take our teenage children to, but perfect for couples wanting a relaxing break in a decent hotel.
