Kapetanios Bay Hotel – Protaras – Cyprus

What a surprise that the Kapetanios Bay Hotel is only rated as a 3 star! Our room was larger than average, in an excellent decorative condition and furnished with a wardrobe, twin beds, a casual table with two chairs, dressing table, bedside cabinet & case shelf [with draws]. It was carpeted, had a TV [local channels & a Lebanese Chanel showing films in English 24 hours a day] and FREE air-conditioning!

The bathroom is of an adequate size with a toilet, Vanity basin, full-size bath with overhead shower and a tiled floor. The bedding was changed mid-week and towels a couple of times a week. Communal areas are in good order, of ample size for the hotel and the pool has more than enough sunbeds. The housekeeping staff do a first rate job and rooms & public areas are as clean as we have seen anywhere.

For breakfast you take your pick from cereals, fruit, continental or fully cooked and on alternate days English style bangers. The dinner is not traditional except on Cypriot night and is of the international style with soup, salads & a large choice of cooked dishes & cold puddings or fruit.

The staff we met were very friendly & helpful & well turned out speaking between them many languages. Although advertised as being regular, the only entertainment was on the Cypriot night, although the reception bar had a big screen TV showing mainly sports.

The down side to the Kapetanios Bay hotel is three fold: the MacDonalds right in front of it is ugly but at least it is not smelly like others have suggested. The dancing fountain show at the back is brilliant to watch but loud, although with the double glazed windows shut it was just an annoyance and not an aggravation. And the bar over the road which seemed to ne a Protaras hot-spot had second or even third rate acts blasting out till two am many nights.

If we were to visit Protaras again would we use this hotel? Well it would be considered.
