Hotel Born – Palma – Majorca

Booked a holiday package here early in October. We chose it because the location and the price. The room was described as a junior suite & more than adequate for our needs. Two single beds, a small sitting area with TV & big wardrobe (for a short break anyway), and a big bathroom. The bathroom was clean & modern with a full size bath. I understand that not all rooms have been refurbished but ours was fine.

The beds were quite hard but that was not an issue for us. We requested & got a first floor courtyard room. We were aware before going that these could be noisy, as you could hear staff getting breakfast ready. Again this was what we expected & we were up & out early anyway.

The rooms are basic but clean. The main lobby is beautiful & the public areas are interesting! There were some very scary paintings on the wall. The courtyard is a pleasant shaded area in which to while away the time. There is no bar, but you can purchase drinks at the reception center & drink them in the courtyard or take them back to your room. Wine is around 12 euros a bottle, and soft drinks are two euros. It was one euro for a small water. Breakfast is included & is adequate – the usual meats, cheeses, bread, pastries & juices. The coffee however is freshly made using a “barista” machine & is a great kick start to the day.
The staff are pleasant & helpful. They had the room ready by 11am & dealt with minor issues quickly (extra pillows, etc).

The real selling point of this hotel, however, is it’s location. Situated in an alleyway opposite Bar Bosch (great for people watching with a cold drink & tasty snacks) and at the top end of Passeig De Born, you are within 10 minutes of great shops, bars, restaurants, and the Castle & Cathedral. We were able to walk to just about everywhere we wanted to see easily, although we did use the open top bus to get to Bellver Castle & Pueblo Espanol. For 115 euro a night including taxes & breakfast, I’d say it is a great value. However, don’t go there if you want luxury.
