Our room at the Barcelo Costa hotel had a king size bed, LCD TV, minibar, coffee maker & clock radio. The room was really big, the bathroom was also a good size and it had a shower but no bath. There was a French balcony but for an additional charge you could have a room with a big balcony with a hammock. The room was always kept very clean by the maids & the minibar was restocked daily. …

We just got back from a holiday at the Sandos Playacar & what a place it is, just fantastic! I’ll start with my one niggle - after a ten hour flight & a wait for the other passengers for the minibus at Cancun airport, we wanted to check into our room, drop our stuff off & go for a swim, but you have to meet your own concierge who tells you about the hotel & resort and then tries to get you to sign up to a breakfast meeting in order for them to sell you membership of their Elite Club. The only way we managed to get out of it was to book it for two days later & then cancel it. They want you to take photo ID & your credit card. …

Upon arrival at the hotel hubby and I were very impressed. The entrance lobby was beautiful and very welcoming.
The hotel itself was immaculate and the gardens well tended.
The food was fantastic, best food options we have ever experienced. (well this was our first time in Mexico). From breakfast, lunch and evening dinner there were amples of variety for all taste buds.
Breakfast: any type of egg you wished for, cereals, bacon and sausages, lots of fresh fruit and the smoothies were gorgeous (especially the beetroot).
Lunch: again amples of variety, lovely salads, burgers and chips etc, pasta dishes and freshly made sandwiches.
Evening dinner: well dont know where to start? carvery every evening, mexican, salads and barbecues on the terrace.
Restaurants:
named Bamboo this was lovely, in the main it was sushi and chinese food.
Steak and grill, the food was superb here, wow steaks were gorgeous, rib eye, fillet etc. This was very difficult to get in at times but well worth getting up early in the morning to book it.
Mexican was ok, this was situated accross the road at the hotel Yucatan, the setting was nice as it overlooked the beach.
The location of the hotel was great, out of the Rui hotels the Tequila is the one not situated on the beach. It is however, only a 10 min stroll down the promenade at the side of the Yucatan hotel. Out of the Rui hotels our seemed to be the one that had the most going on, especially for teenagers due to the disco.
The staff were lovely and would go out of their way to please you, the bell boys were also friendly. Could not fault the staff at all and the gardeners and maids work extremely hard.
The entertainment staff were friendly, their days appeared very long. The shows of an evening were good, the ABBA and Michael Jackson shows were the best.
Would I go to this hotel again, yes in a few years time, but Mexico as alot more to offer.

The food was great plenty of it and great choice
You could book speciality restaurants as often as you wanted but it was on a fist come basis in the morning so popular restaurants booked by 8am.
The room was clean but had awful smell think it was sprayed by some insect reppelent other rooms booked by friends were fine. The smell seemed to linger in our clothes when we got home but once washed were fine.Lots of drink on offer and you could even get brand named such as smirnoff vodka still free if you asked for it/ Staff very helpful.
Reception and lobby bar where Wi Fi was available were a nightmare mossie hell because they were open and dark you had to spray well before you went near
Sunbeds had towels placed on them to keep so after 7.30 none available which is poor

Baja is one of the most surprising areas of Mexico. Miles of coastline, coupled with harsh deserts and lush inland areas, creates a vivid landscape that is a blast to explore. Join Nick Vivion on a tour of this fabulous peninsula, hunting pigs with locals in Sierra de La Laguna for some pig hunting, surfing San Jose del Cabo and diving in Cabo Pulmo.
