St. Josephs – Luxor – Egypt

We have stayed at the St Josephs twice now, so that must say something. We could of opted for one of the swankier hotels in Luxor, but from our experience in larger hotels/resorts you are just a number, staff do not know you.

Here it is small & friendly, the staff help you if possible, one of the receptionists, got the phone number of a taxi driver I had used the previous year & we used him all week, he is very friendly & helpful.

We have gone B/B both times, intending to eat out, but when we get there, we always decide to get their meal tickets, 6 4 course evening meals for about £27. The meals are very substantial & nice, but sometimes, what with the heat, you did not fancy such rich food, not that we did not enjoy them. The bar food served on the roof terrace is also recommended.

Just returned on Thursday 7th July from The Sensatori Hotel, this hotel is fantastic & can’t fault anything about it.

The staff at this hotel are very friendly & a big thank you to Ramadan on reception who was very helpful & nothing was ever an issue to him.

I will be returning back to this wonderful hotel, & a big thanks to all at the hotel for making our holiday a pleasure a big massive THANK YOU to you all.

When we arrived at the hotel check-in was quick & easy; went to our room which was very nice. We paid for a sea view but the room also over looked the pool as well so we were impressed.

Room was a nice size & very clean. The hotel itself was kept clean, staff very friendly & helpful. We were told there were only 5 hotels & a small town with a few shops so if you want to chill & do nothing this is the place for you.

I have stayed at this hotel 9/10 times & in my opinion it has really gone downhill. This time I traveled by myself but have been both as a family & a solo traveller.

The Room: I had one of the “refurbished rooms”. Well, in the bathroom, you couldn’t have a shower or a bath, you had to have both as the water came out of both the shower head & the tap. Either freezing cold or boiling hot! The other bathroom had no water whatsoever coming from the hot tap in the sink, the hairdryer didn’t work, & the same problem with the shower & bath.

The first day I was there we had a sandstorm & I had to wedge a chair underneath the balcony door, as it kept blowing open all the time.

Having holidayed in the Caribbean a number of times we decided to give Mexico a try as we do get a bit “buffet’ed out” into the second week of our stay, & Cancun offered a good selection of restaurants outside of the hotels.

We booked with First Choice & as the flight was early on the Friday morning we decided to stay overnight at the Sofitel at the Gatwick north terminal. This too allowed us to make use of the day before check-in & baggage drop. We were a bit surprised on checking in at five pm that we could not get a window seat as they were all reserved? The girl at the check-in was very unhelpful & rude when we queered this.

Just returned from this great hotel; the staff were wonderful nothing was too much trouble. Ibrahim (bar manager) & his staff were brilliant, always ready for a chat & a laugh, they are worth their weight in gold. Rooms were kept spotless, the towel guys were great (a little tip goes a long along way).

Food was OK but a little cold in the main dining area, but plenty of choice even for picky eaters like me. I can’t wait to return this time next year, as the weather was just right. Hot but bearable. I would like to thank all the staff for making it a wonderful holiday.
