Quercus Hotel - Alcaidesa - Costa Del Sol
We stayed at the Quercus Hotel for a golf weekend in April 2009 and considering it’s only touted as a 3 star, were dead impressed. The rooms are a good size with their own terraces looking out over the village to the sea and Gibraltar, which is only a 15 minute cab ride away. The staff were friendly andĀ the food was decent, if not exceptional, but the hotel is very modern, smallĀ and has a very nice vibe.
It says on the website that it is only 100m from Alcaidesa golf club, which unfortunately isn’t true now theymoved/rebuilt the (very modern) Club House. It’s about 2km up the road. And when I say “up”, I mean “up”! You need a car as there are no taxis in Alcaidesa. No nothing in Alcaidesa in fact, but that’s good if you like peace and quiet. There is one bar with restaurant about 100m from the hotel though, and a pharmacy. The hotel owner kindly took us to the golf course on both days because of the mix-up (we didn’t hire a car but should have). Oh - and fly ino Gibraltar, not Malaga. It’s far easier and only 20 euros by taxi.
A great little hotel though and comes highly recommended.
As for the two golf courses in Alcaidesa, they are dead tough, but very nice. The Links course was my favourite and not at all boring like many links courses. One thing though - you definately don’t want to walk either of the courses as they are hilly, especially the Heathland course. There is one walk in particular between tees that would take around 20 minutes and is all uphill!! San Roque isn’t far away - we played a course up near there too which was also excellent.
