Gala Placidia Hotel – Benidorm – Costa Blanca

Booked in quickly & reception staff really nice.

We only had breakfast one day as the tables were too close together; unsuitable for a wheelchair also to get to the dining-room there is a lift which was big enough for the wheelchair & a few people. The hotel was full with the Spanish pensioners free week so it was very difficult to get to the food this was not the hotel’s fault.

I don’t look for anything special because I’m in a wheelchair but respect is a basic for all people in my opinion, however in the dining room the Spanish guests were very rude, I have a leg extension on my chair & one person walked into it & the look I got was “it was your fault, then muttered in Spanish”, after that we dined out.

The location we were told was on a slight incline, it’s up a steep hill very unsuitable for a wheelchair! Once down the bottom of the hill we were not too far from the hustle & bustle of Benidorm.

We did not attend the entertainment in the evening in the hotel therefore cannot comment.

We were told that the hotel was disabled friendly but the only disabled friends was the actual wheelchair access to get into the reception area from the outside.

The lifts to the rooms were too small for a wheelchair (folded) & two people, so I had to take a lift on crutches & my husband came on the next lift with the wheelchair.

The rooms are very dated & need a complete re-vamp, the bathrooms have been somewhat re-vamped just a pity they decided to keep the small bath instead of changing to a walk in shower, therefore the room is totally not wheelchair/disabled friendly – the balcony was big & I could sit out although there was no table or chairs for use on the balcony.

You do get what you pay for but in this case we were well over charged for this package holiday! All in all the hotel really needs to be closed down & totally refurbished!
