Eken Resort Hotel - Gumbet - Turkey

Eken Resort Hotel - Gumbet - Turkey

We visited the Eken hotel in Gumber with a bit of trepidation. We’d heard mixed reports about the hotel & the travel company, but the moans & groans were unfounded. We were a mixed company of kids & adults & we all had a great time. The rooms were clean & bright & must have been recently decorated. The rooms were tidied every day, but towels were only changed every 2/3 days.

The staff at the Eken were very nice & worked extremely hard. We found that, because we had kids, the staff were more chatty & interacted more with us. Some of the staff weren’t so friendly, but I think it’s possibly because they didn’t speak English but we are in their country to be fair.

The food at the Eken resort was mixed. There were plenty of salads, beautiful bread & nice desserts but it could be a bit tedious at times as it was a bit repetative although some nights the food was beautiful. The only negative on the food front was the selection for kids, which was very poor. My youngest ate bread for the whole week as there was nothing he liked. During the day, there were snacks: kebabs, chips etc. The burgers were horrible, but my husband said the kebabs were great. Tea & cake was on offer at about 5pm, but goes very quickly. We heard some moans about the food, but in all honesty, for what we paid for the week, we cannot complain at all! The drinks were OK too. Some people complained that they thought they were watered down & I must admit, they weren’t exactly generous with measures, so we just kept going back up to the bar again & again. I hate to use the same old cliche, but you get what you pay for & we were more than happy.

The hotel itself is in a great location, close enough to walk to both the beach & the bars without noise problems. The terraced area was very nice & one night there was a belly dancer but as far as entertainment went, that was about it. We never stayed in the hotel much anyway & chose to go to bar street & the surrounding areas.

The pool area was very nice at the hotel as was the pool itself but unfortunatley had no shallow end, so it was a bit of a worry with the younger kids. There was a baby pool, but it was absolutely tiny!

All in all, I think the Eken was well worth the money we paid for our holiday, & we would return tomorrow (if only)!
