Caribbean World Resort – Borj Cedria Tunis – Tunisia

Firstly we were told we were going to Carribean World in Hammamet, not in Borj Cedria so that was the first suprise. The one good thing about this hotel is it is spotless – the rooms are basic but spacious and cleaned every day with clean sheets & towels & the surrounding areas of the hotel are also very clean & well kept.

The hotel staff seemed nice enough, the only problem being no-one could speak any English as their second language is French. They could also speak Russian, German and Dutch, but as soon as we said English they would say “ah” & walk off because they dont speak the language, not even the basics.

The entertainment team were always trying to get you involved in some type of game but when we worked out what the game was, the instructions were in French so it was useless. The night time entertainment was French & Russian so it was very boring to watch when you have no clue whats going on. The maids however were very nice they were polite & always had a smile.

I will say do not go to this hotel if you are a fussy eater. The food left a lot to be desired the meat was never the colour it was suppost to be & there is nothing for people who like simple things. I know you expect the food to be different abroad but there is usually something for everyone, but here they don’t cater for everyone. It was mostly fish grilled at lunch time which the French seemed to love, so I think they cater for those people more.

Being All-Inclusive you think that means actually All-Inclusive. My advice is if you like a drink buy as much as you can at the airport on the way into Tunisia. The only things included in All-Inclusive was juice, wine, lager on tap which was very weak & almost clear & they give it in the smallest glass you have ever seen so you have to keep going back every two minutes. It’s pointless walking to the pool with it because it’s gone by the time you get there. They also had coke, lemonade & their local drink called “borsh” which was made from figs – absolutely disgusting & noone wants to spend a week on the toilet. You had to pay for vodka which was their own brand & also the water. The only other spirit available was gin which you also had to pay for. You cannot get any alcohol while at this hotel as the shops do not sell it & there is no supermarket.

Caribbean World Resort offers three excursions & the men pounce on you as soon as you spend your first day by the pool & they get very rude if you tell them you dont want to go - they keep on & on. We went on all three just to get away from the hotel. The camel ride was for 3 hours & cost £25 which was expensive considering they take you down to the beach & along a dirt track, then spend an hour & half in a shack on the mountain wasting time really. You have the option of going back on a horse but don’t go unless you can ride a horse because they run back & you just have to hold on or fall off.

The 2nd option is the quad bike – we got that for £20 each for a hour and that was ok. The same dirt track but take glasses because the dust & fine sand gets in your eyes from the person in front.

The third was a pirate ship. Do not go on this! It’s the biggest rip off ever. They say it comes with food & drink & that there are plenty of British people on it. We were the only two British people on the boat and they pack you on like sardines – about 200 people on this wooden boat. They tell you when the food is ready in a different language so obviously by the time we realised what was going on the French & Russians had had their food & there was none left. You have to wait until they put bottles of coke & plastic cups out before you can have a drink - about two hours into the journey & you float around for 4 1/2 hours, never stopping anywhere or visiting any beaches. The whole thing is pathetic & for £25 each a complete waste of money I absolutley hated it.

The trip I do recommend is the day trip to the safari park with the hotels rep. You leave in the afternoon, go to a wildlike park & then go to a show & dinner – it’s really good, a nice atmosphere & the food is lovely. It cost 65 dinar so thats about £30. I would recommend going though, it’s a good day out & a great excuse to get out of this hotel. The Med rep, Shaz is really nice too. She will answer any questions you have & help you out when she can. We met another couple who were staying in Hammamet & they seemed to be having a nice time & it looked really nice when we drove through, so other parts of Tunisia are probably nice but sadly this one experience has put us off ever going back ever.
