Avenida Apartments - Benidorm - Costa Blanca
having found these apartments with Travel Republic for £30 a night I thought I’d give them a go because of the reviews on this site and others (Trip Advisor have it particularly high for a 2* place)
the location is superb if you want to be near the old town well away from the tourist end of town. Right in the heart of the city and i had a great balcony overlooking one of the cities streets that led straight down to the sea.
The reception staff were expecting me and had everything ready. A £60 or 60 euro deposit was needed. Got the TV remote control and air con remote in exchange!
Apartment small but perfectly formed. living area had kitchenette with microwave, no kettle though but microwaving water for coffee works. Huge fridge and dining table. Also had sofa, tv (Eurosport and CNN in English - though reception not great - but hey you’re not there to watch TV)
Balcony was big enough for two to sit on. Bedroom had two single beds pushed together. Huge, comfortable pillows and blankets came in useful- I’m a bit nesh, northerners will know what I mean by that!
Bathroom was small but all worked well - and thats what I call a power shower!
use of the pool at the Avenida Hotel opposite was great. the rooftop pool was heated which was superb as the sea was too cold. IT was a nice little suntrap up there. You could opt for half board or I believe all inclusive if you wanted to - but to be honest there is so much going on in benidorm I wouldnt like to be stuck in one place.
all in all perhaps the fixtures and fittings are a little dated but for the money you cant complain. £30 a night was so worth it and i would heartily recommend it as a great base.
if you are particularly interested in the tourist area, its about a 20 minute walk or 6 euros in a cab of which there are many within a couple of mins work. if you’d rather have the more spanish experience along side some great bars and restaurants you could do much worse than staying here.
The one downside is that as its built in an atrium with all the rooms leading off, the old heavy doors do many a crash when they are closed! And also the maids get busy from around 8am and don’t speak quietly! But a small price to pay for such an excellent place to stay.
