Highly recommended for those who want to be away from the maddening crowds that seem to throng most locations across India during holidays. Kasauli is the place to go to if you want to breathe the fresh air, walk endlessly & appreciate nature. In fact I kept telling my daughter to breathe the fresh air in Kasauli to take care of all the pollution that one encounters in Mumbai.

food, sight-seeing & shopping
we did not venture much out of our own hotel – hotel Roscommon as that seemed to be the place that most non-residents seemed to come to for lunch & dinner.

You can go for walks along the upper mall road or the lower mall road. The views from these, the quaint little bungalows (estates as the locals call them), the trees, the flowers along the roadside all make up for a heady cocktail. So give up your cars & start walking. Be it early or morning, late afternoon or early evening, just take a stroll down the lower mall road, beyond sunset point – we just enjoyed the whole place. The church in the middle of the town with the sun dial is a must visit.

Shopping is fairly limited to local produce & some fantastic fruit wines – just go ahead & taste them & you will end up buying cartons – apple cider, peach, pear, apricot. The list is endless.

activities & things to do
nothing much other than walk, walk & walk. Not to forget laze in a hammock under the pine trees with the wind blowing. With a book. Wish we had budgetted a few more days in kasauli.

travel tips, how to reach, travel warnings etc.
we travelled from Delhi to Kalka by shatabdi exp & back. Hired a local cab to pick us up from Kalka & drop us at the hotel. One thing to remember is that for some strange reason shatabdi express does not offer dinner on the delhi-kalka leg (strangely it does on the kalka delhi leg). We stopped at a nice dhaba that our taxi driver recommended to have dinner & reached our resort by 11 pm with our stomachs full.
